Energy Factors and Commercial Mortgages

Currently, in the process of underwriting, valuing and managing an asset, energy factors relating to the impact of energy costs on net operating income are not fully accounted for in commercial mortgages. This discrepancy results in energy efficiency being improperly valued and energy risks being improperly assessed and mitigated. Leveraging commercial mortgages can create an important channel for making energy efficiency investments scalable.
