PORTFOLIO ENERGY PERFORMANCE

Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. Keene Housing's portfolio consists of 15 buildings and 480,000 square feet. The partner has improved energy performance by 4% from a 2014 baseline, making progress towards a goal of 20% by 2024.  Energy savings have been achieved in the third year of the Challenge by installing a solar array at Harper Acres. Year 4 will bring several improvements including a deep energy retrofit of Central Square Terrace as well as a combined solar array/heat pump project at Forest View Apartments. In addition, Keene Housing completed a strategic plan outlining opportunities for achieving its goal of 20% energy savings by 2024.

ENERGY PERFORMANCE BY PROPERTY

Looking at the percent improvement in energy performance across all facilities can provide insight into how an organization is saving energy. Keene Housing has achieved energy performance improvement of greater than 15% at three of its properties. There are four properties that have experienced an increase in Source EUI. These properties have been targeted for future energy efficiency improvements.

IDENTIFYING OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVEMENT

Property-level energy performance metrics, including EUI and percent improvement to date, are critical to track progress over time and identify opportunities for additional energy savings. Keene Housing's portfolio consists of properties with a wide range of baseline EUI values, most of which are from 75 to 150 kBtu/sq. ft. The majority of properties have shown energy improvement since 2014. The properties located near or below the 0% axis may present good opportunities for further savings.

PORTFOLIO WATER PERFORMANCE

Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source water use intensity (WUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. Keene Housing's portfolio consists of 15 buildings and 480,000 square feet. The partner has improved water performance by 29% from a 2013 baseline, surpassing a goal of 20% by 2023.  Water savings have been achieved by installing low-flow faucet and shower fixtures upon turn over starting in 2013. Additionally, regular tracking of water consumption and quick action each time a spike in consumption was discovered helped catch issues such as hoses left running and running toilets.
