PORTFOLIO ENERGY PERFORMANCE

Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. Foundation Communities' portfolio consists of more than 23 properties and 2.6 million square feet. Foundation Communities has improved energy performance by 12% from a 2014 baseline, making progress towards a goal of 20% by 2023.  Energy savings have been achieved by implementing lighting retrofits across all properties, HVAC and weatherization improvements, operations and maintenance standards, and a comprehensive energy awareness program focused on resident and staff engagement initiatives.

ENERGY PERFORMANCE BY PROPERTY

Looking at the percent improvement in energy performance across all facilities can provide insight into how an organization is saving energy.  Foundation Communities has achieved energy performance improvement of greater than 6% at more than 11 of its properties. There is 1 property that has experienced an increase in Source EUI.  This property has been targeted for future energy efficiency improvements.

IDENTIFYING OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVEMENT

Property-level energy performance metrics, including EUI and percent improvement to date, are critical to track progress over time and identify opportunities for additional energy savings. Foundation Communities' portfolio consists of properties with  a wide range of baseline EUI values, most of which are from 75 to 200 kBtu/sq. ft. The majority of properties have shown energy improvement since 2014. The properties located near or below the 0% axis may present good opportunities for further savings.

PORTFOLIO WATER PERFORMANCE

Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source water use intensity (WUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. Foundation Communities' portfolio consists of more than 23 buildings and 2.6 million square feet. Foundation Communities has improved water performance by 16% from a 2014 baseline, making progress towards a goal of 20% by 2023. Water savings have been achieved through significant water device retrofits including low-flow toilets, showerheads, and aerators. Water conservation education is also provided to all residents and on-site staff.
