Cion Housing Services: Energy performance

Cumulative (vs. Baseline)-1%
Annual (2018)-4%
PORTFOLIO ENERGY PERFORMANCE

Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. Cion's portfolio consists of more than 10 buildings and 53,000 square feet. Cion has improved energy performance by -1% from a 2015 baseline, making progress towards a goal of 20% by 2024.  To conserve energy, Cion Housing Services has replaced their light bulbs and many of their appliances with more energy efficient ones. In the future, they plan to reach out to tenants with information on both water and energy conservation and replace toilets, washers, dryers, and dishwashers with high efficiency models and change the way they water their landscapes.

ENERGY PERFORMANCE BY PROPERTY

Looking at the percent improvement in energy performance across all facilities can provide insight into how an organization is saving energy. Cion has achieved energy performance improvement between 2% and 15% at three of its properties. There are five properties that have experienced an increase in Source EUI. These properties have been targeted for future energy efficiency improvements.

IDENTIFYING OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVEMENT

Property-level energy performance metrics, including EUI and percent improvement to date, are critical to track progress over time and identify opportunities for additional energy savings. Cion Housing's portfolio consists of properties with a wide range of baseline EUI values, most of which are from 80 to 120 kBtu/sq. ft. The majority of properties have shown energy improvement since 2015. The properties located near or below the 0% axis may present good opportunities for further savings.
