Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. Chesapeake College’s campus consists of 373 thousand square feet. Chesapeake College has improved energy performance by 24% from a 2011
baseline, surpassing its goal of 20% by 2024. Building renovations throughout the last decade have included geothermal HVAC systems, a variable speed drive chiller, occupancy sensors, lighting controls, and LED fixtures. The most recent renovation/expansion project, the Health Professions and Athletics Center, is a showcase project featuring daylight harvesting, solar hot water heating, and solar PV generation that shades an associated parking lot.
